Investment thesis
Foundry is Blackbird's bet that the next wave of world-changing companies will emerge from researchers who choose ambition and take the leap into founding. The program targets scientists, engineers and inventors — typically PhD students or early/mid-career researchers with a link to Australia or New Zealand — helping them sharpen their thesis, build early evidence, and develop the skills and character to start frontier/deep tech companies. Over 8 weeks it provides 1:1 mentorship, weekly practical seminars on deep tech topics, a community of 200+ builders, and a pitch competition. It embraces long timelines and technical risk, and provides $1k non-dilutive per team plus a A$5k final prize, taking no equity.
