Investment thesis
Illumina for Startups aims to accelerate innovation in the genomics entrepreneurial community by partnering with venture investors and entrepreneurs to create, launch, and grow genomics startups. It advances breakthrough genomics applications spanning therapeutics, diagnostics, agriculture, synthetic biology, software, and direct-to-consumer uses. The program offers grants that let entrepreneurs run proof-of-concept next-generation sequencing experiments at selected Illumina sites, providing access to MiSeq, NextSeq, and NovaSeq systems plus Illumina reagents, technical advice, experiment-planning meetings with scientists, and connections to subject-matter experts. The former Illumina Accelerator, which operated in the San Francisco Bay Area since 2014 and Cambridge, UK since 2020, joined Illumina Ventures in 2023 and relaunched as Illumina Ventures Labs.
