Tom Baruch pioneered corporate venture at Exxon and, as an early synthetic-biology investor since 1997 with no losses in the sector, promotes a DNA Economy and 10-year billion-dollar timelines.
Ethan Mirsky is an entrepreneur who has co-founded and built two companies, one of which had a $1.2B exit, taking on responsibilities across fundraising, business and R&D strategy, organizational culture, deal-making, and partnerships. His work has spanned fields including semiconductor chip design, software engineering, synthetic biology, biotech, and sustainable textiles. He focuses on applying innovation and technology to environmental sustainability and reducing human impact on the natural world.
Gjalt Huisman is a synthetic biology specialist with over 20 years of experience building R&D organizations and moving scientific innovation toward commercialization. He previously worked at Metabolix, Maxygen, and Codexis, where he led enzyme discovery for pharmaceuticals including atorvastatin, sitagliptin, and nirmatrelvir, and later established Codexis' biotherapeutics business. He holds MSc and PhD degrees from the University of Groningen and conducted post-doctoral work at Harvard Medical School, joining Baruch Future Ventures in 2023.
Dr. Jeff Roberts is the former Director of Advanced Energy Technologies at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where he spent 27 years in roles including Program Leader for Renewable Energy and Applied Energy Technologies and Deputy Division Leader for the Atmospheric, Earth, and Energy Division, publishing over 50 papers and holding ten patents. He co-founded the HPC4Mfg and HPC4EnergyInnovation programs and served as Executive Director of the National Laboratory Leadership Council from 2017-2019. He now provides technical consulting to startups in energy, materials, and advanced manufacturing, and holds a Ph.D. in Geoscience from Arizona State University and a B.S. from UT San Antonio.
Josh Silverman, Ph.D., is the CEO and founder of Windfall Bio, which develops nature-based technology to convert methane into organic soil nutrients. He has more than 20 years of experience in biotech research and commercialization, previously serving as CEO of Aromyx, founder and CTO of Calysta, and VP of Drug Development at Amunix, and has advised several climate-focused biotech companies. He holds a B.Sc. in Molecular Biology from UC San Diego and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Stanford University.
Michael Melnick is a biotech scientist, investor, and entrepreneur. He began his career as a staff scientist at New England Biolabs, co-founded the cancer research and diagnostics company Cell Signaling Technology (serving as VP of Business and Corporate Development), and worked as a Venture Partner at CMEA Capital, where he invested in life science, industrial biotech, and cleantech. He has held operating roles at various biotech companies, most recently BioAtla, and holds a B.S. and M.S. in Biological Sciences from Stanford University and a Ph.D. in Genetics from Harvard University.
Miranda Tzab holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from San Francisco State University.
