John Collison co-founded Stripe with his brother Patrick in 2010 and, as President, helped build it into a $159 billion company that moved $1.9 trillion in 2025 — while arguing publicly that 'an IPO would be a solution in search of a problem.' He sold his first company, Auctomatic, at 17, took eight A1s in the Irish Leaving Certificate, and dropped out of Harvard a year later to build Stripe. A licensed pilot since 17 who once flew a twin-engine propeller plane across the Atlantic, he co-owns Dublin's Weston Airport and hosts the interview podcast Cheeky Pint.

Beyond investing

Founded: Launched Cheeky Pint in 2025, a Stripe-produced interview podcast recorded in the office pub; guests have included Greg Brockman, Tobi Lütke, and Evan Spiegel. Collison co-founded the payments company Stripe with his brother Patrick in 2010. In 2007 Collison founded 'Shuppa' with his brother Patrick in Limerick.

Hobbies: Learned to fly at 17 and is a licensed pilot; in 2017 he flew a twin-engine propeller aircraft from Europe across the Atlantic. Collison is a pilot and a pianist. In 2021 and 2022 Collison bought the Abbeyleix Estate and the derelict Millbrook House in County Laois, Ireland, and plans to restore Millbrook House into a family home.
Family: Son of a microbiologist and an electronic engineer; raised in Dromineer, County Tipperary, and educated at Castletroy College in Limerick. Collison's brother is Patrick Collison, with whom he co-founded Stripe. Collison was born to microbiologist Lily and electronic engineer Denis Collison.
More: Part of the investor group that bought a majority stake in Dublin's Weston Airport in 2021, aiming to make it Ireland's general-aviation hub. Says an IPO would be 'a solution in search of a problem' for a self-funding, growing Stripe.
