Volution Ventures

James Codling comes from an entrepreneurial family with a background in engineering and business, and holds an engineering degree. He began his career in 2000 on the TMT team at JPMorgan financing European 3G and cable rollouts, later moving into private equity at the buyout firm Montagu in 2006. In 2013 he founded his own venture to fund UK SaaS and FinTech companies through their scaling stage, and now works with founders at Volution.

Jonny Laughton was on the founding team of Star, an early UK ISP, in 1995, and later moved to its sister company MessageLabs to expand the UK business across Europe and beyond. After that exit, he founded the Sarum Oncology Fund, which invested in diagnostics and medtech businesses focused on cancer, before returning to B2B SaaS and establishing Armada Ventures to raise institutional capital for Series A and B SaaS companies. His observations about gaps in the funding market shaped the early thinking behind Volution.

Nick Hoar began his career in his family's housebuilding and hospitality businesses, working in hotels, pubs and restaurants before the business was sold. He then spent around 30 years in global asset management, starting on the graduate training program at Fidelity Investments and later working at major firms, where he focused on launching new regions, products and asset classes for institutional and retail investors and recruited and built asset management teams. At Volution he works on the firm's strategy and supporting founders of portfolio companies.

Nina Foote is part of the team at Volution Ventures, where she works with founders building and scaling technology businesses. Before joining Volution, she spent around thirteen years at Christie's, where she experienced the auction house's shift from legacy systems to fully digital operations, and previously worked at a French software company, an image archive, a wine business and a headhunting firm. At Volution she emphasizes ESG within the firm's growth model.

Mike Edwards began his career in mechanical engineering at Rolls-Royce before moving into finance at UBS Investment Bank in London, and then joined Redline Capital as a Venture Investor in 2014. As Investment Director at Volution Ventures, he focuses on companies that have reached an inflection point with product-market fit and traction, helping them scale globally through capital and hands-on support.

Steve Lemon began his career in financial services and city brokerage before moving into early-stage companies. He helped run the retail business at HIFX, which was later sold to Euronet for £150m, ran a headhunting business, and co-founded Currencycloud. He now works on the investment side at Volution.

Amy Goodwin manages Volution's existing portfolio of direct and co-investments and takes part in evaluating new investments and follow-on deals. She began her career in strategy consulting at Estin & Co in Paris and London, then worked in UK mid-market private equity at Phoenix Equity Partners as an Origination & Research Analyst and later Investment Manager, covering sectors such as media, technology, and financial services.

Sarah Hanafy began her career in politics, running election campaigns for MPs and later serving as communications counsel to cabinet ministers in Government. She subsequently led marketing and communications teams at global banks before joining the fintech company Currencycloud, where she grew the marketing team from four to fifty people ahead of the company's acquisition by Visa. Her expertise spans product marketing, demand generation, PR, and communications.
