Augmentum Fintech

Richard Matthews has over two decades of venture capital and private equity experience across the technology, retail, and leisure sectors. He began his career at PwC before serving as CFO at Flutter.com (later Betfair), then joined Benchmark Capital Europe (now Balderton Capital) in 2002 working on early-stage technology investments, and later spent five years at Manzanita Capital. He co-founded Augmentum Capital with Tim Levene and helped launch Augmentum Fintech on the London Stock Exchange main market in 2018.

Tim Levene is CEO of Augmentum Fintech, a European venture capital firm focused on fintech. He launched the fund's first iteration in 2010 and, with co-founder Richard Matthews, listed Augmentum Fintech plc on the London Stock Exchange in 2018; the company was acquired by Verdane in May 2026. Earlier in his career he was a founding employee of Flutter.com, which merged with Betfair.com in 2001, and he is involved in UK fintech initiatives including the UK FinTech Strategy Group and Innovate Finance.

Harry Jones is a Senior Portfolio Analyst at Augmentum Fintech, where he analyses and reports on the performance of the firm's portfolio companies. Before joining Augmentum, he was a manager in the valuations and modelling team at Grant Thornton. He studied economics at Durham University and is a Chartered Accountant.

Johnnie Martin is a member of the investment team at Augmentum Fintech, where he focuses on fintech companies. Before joining Augmentum, he worked in the Portfolio and Insights team at Montagu Private Equity and began his career at PwC, qualifying as a Chartered Accountant. He holds a degree in Accounting and Finance from Newcastle University.

Maliha Mooney is an Executive Assistant at Augmentum, where she supports CEO Tim Levene with diary management and assists the wider team with day-to-day office operations. Before joining Augmentum, she provided administrative support to directors and C-level executives across industries including insurance, healthcare, and property.

Nigel Szembel advises Augmentum Fintech on communications and investor relations. He spent ten years in public policy before a 25-year career in international financial and capital markets communications, holding roles as Head of Communications EMEA (excluding Germany) and Global Head of Internal Communications at Deutsche Bank, and Head of Communications and IR at Collins Stewart plc and Tullett Prebon plc, where he also worked on the reorganisation of the Latin American business. He later oversaw communications for the launch of the UK investment fund Fundsmith.

Sofia Wiecko manages the financial and administrative operations at Augmentum and has more than 15 years of experience in financial accounting. She is also involved with several local charities.
