The Cost of Trust framework identifies two mechanisms by which blockchains create venture-scale economic value within high-cost-of-trust markets: (1) trust-intermediary rent compression, undercutting fees extracted by existing intermediaries, and (2) enablement, creating trust-dependent outcomes that legacy infrastructure cannot produce. The strongest outcomes compound both mechanisms.
