George Church is a professor at Harvard Medical School and MIT and director of PersonalGenomes.org, an open-access repository of human genomic, environmental, and trait data. His 1984 Harvard PhD introduced early methods for direct genome sequencing, molecular multiplexing, and barcoding, work that contributed to next-generation DNA sequencing technologies and the 1994 sequencing of the Helicobacter pylori genome. He has founded multiple companies in medical diagnostics and synthetic biology, directs an IARPA BRAIN Project and an NIH Center for Excellence in Genomic Science, and has authored 460 papers, 105 patent publications, and the book Regenesis.
