Investment thesis
NAventures is the corporate venture capital arm of National Bank of Canada. It invests in, partners with, and helps scale early to mid-stage companies that aim to shape the future of financial institutions. Beyond providing capital, the firm emphasizes hands-on involvement, working alongside founders throughout the process to support the success of their ventures and create value together through strategic investments.

Philippe Daoust is Managing Director at NAventures, where he sources companies that support National Bank's transformation. He previously built and led the integration and separation advisory practice at a Big 4 firm, working on mergers and acquisitions for Canadian financial institutions, with experience in the United States, France, Latin America, and New Zealand. He holds a BBA and a graduate degree in public accounting from HEC Montreal and is a chartered professional accountant (CPA) in Canada and the USA.
James Povitz is on the investment team at NAventures, where he sources fintech investments and supports portfolio companies. He previously worked on the strategic initiatives, partnerships and investments team at National Bank on retail and commercial banking projects, and before that practiced at Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP advising startups, VCs, and other businesses on venture deals, securities, and M&A. He is a member of the Barreau du Québec and holds a B.Com., a B.C.L., and an LL.B. from McGill University.
Joshuah (Josh) Lebacq is a Principal/Director at NAventures, where he works on identifying early trends and driving innovation at National Bank. He previously held corporate strategy roles at the Business Development Bank of Canada and Accenture Strategy, with experience spanning corporate strategy, corporate development, and new venture development. He completed business studies at institutions including the Ivey Business School, New York University, Bocconi University, the University of Hong Kong, and the Copenhagen Business School.
Jonathan Dellar-Fernandes is an Associate on the investment team at NAventures, where he researches the banking and fintech industries and handles investment analysis and due diligence for early-stage companies. Julien Marolleau is a Senior Analyst at NAventures, where he works on market research, sourcing, analysis, and due diligence for early-stage companies, focusing on fintech, banking, and cybersecurity. He previously served as a management consulting director at CGI, advising Canadian institutional investors on transaction and portfolio risks, and worked as a corporate strategy analyst at Bombardier. He holds a Master of Aerospace Engineering from École de Technologie Supérieure and a Master of Mechanical Engineering from Universités de Technologie in France, and is a CFA Level II Candidate.
Laurence Boudrias is an Associate at NAventures, where she conducts banking and fintech market research to inform investment analysis and supports portfolio companies with business model and go-to-market strategy. She previously worked at Accenture advising large Canadian companies on business strategy, digital strategy, and technology implementations, including work with Accenture Development Partnership.
