Mustafa Suleyman has co-founded two of the most consequential AI companies of the century and now runs a third effort inside Microsoft: DeepMind, which he started in 2010 with Demis Hassabis and Shane Legg and Google bought for around £400 million, and Inflection AI, which raised $1.3 billion at a $4 billion valuation before Microsoft paid roughly $650 million in March 2024 to license its technology and hire almost the entire team. He is now EVP and CEO of Microsoft AI and leads its superintelligence team. The son of a Syrian taxi driver and an English nurse, he dropped out of Oxford at 19 having already co-founded the Muslim Youth Helpline, and wrote the bestseller The Coming Wave.

Founded: Co-founded DeepMind in 2010 with Demis Hassabis and Shane Legg, having met Hassabis through his best friend — Hassabis's brother. Co-founded Inflection AI in 2022 with Reid Hoffman and Karén Simonyan; Microsoft hired him and most of the team in March 2024, and Inflection continues as an enterprise AI company under CEO Sean White.
