Cottonwood Technology Fund backs IP-driven, patent-based hard science and deep tech startups it believes can disrupt large markets and become global industry leaders. It focuses on key enabling technologies including photonics/optics, quantum, micro- and nanoelectronics, advanced materials, nanotechnology, sensor technology, health sciences, climatetech/energy transition, and advanced manufacturing and robotics. The fund invests at early stage (average $1-3M) and growth stage (average $5-25M in B/C rounds), supporting companies from research stage to unicorn status. It deliberately avoids consumer products, software, AI, platforms, apps, crypto, and pharma/drug development. Beyond capital, Cottonwood offers hands-on business development support, experienced management, corporate connections, customer relationships, and a strong network of labs, universities, medical centers and research institutes.
