He holds an MD from Harvard Medical School and a PhD in Physics from MIT, and completed clinical training in Internal Medicine and Cardiology at Brigham and Women's Hospital. His research applies physics and engineering to problems in biology and medicine, particularly cardiovascular topics; he has published over 275 scientific papers, holds more than 40 US patents, co-founded two biomedical companies, and has served as an expert witness in patent and corporate litigation.
