Joseph DeSimone, PhD, is the Sanjiv Sam Gambhir Professor in Translational Medicine and Chemical Engineering at Stanford University, with appointments in Radiology, Chemical Engineering, and by courtesy in the Graduate School of Business and departments of Chemistry and Materials Science. He co-founded Carbon, Inc., where he served as CEO from 2014 to 2019, and continues as a board member; his earlier academic work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and NC State University produced polymer synthesis in supercritical CO2 and the PRINT nanoparticle molding technology, and led to the founding of Liquidia Technologies. DeSimone has co-founded additional companies including Focal Medical, PinPrint, OmnipulseBio, Blue Current, and Teal Health, and holds board roles at Ursinus College and the National Geographic Society
