Harrison Chase open-sourced LangChain in October 2022 — an 800-line Python package that caught the ChatGPT wave to become the default way developers wire language models into applications — and built the company behind it to a $1.25 billion valuation in its October 2025 Series B led by IVP. A Harvard statistics-and-CS graduate who wrote quantitative sports analysis as a student, he led entity-linking at Kensho and the ML team at Robust Intelligence, where he met co-founder Ankush Gola. LangSmith and LangGraph turned the library into the orchestration stack for production agents, and Chase's 'context engineering' framing has become industry vocabulary.
