Investment thesis
Capital-E backs early-stage companies whose enabling technologies target large replacement markets with an order-of-magnitude improvement in price/performance over existing solutions. Its core focus is micro- and nano-electronics, nanotechnology, and advanced materials, building clusters across application segments such as semiconductor processing and metrology, communications and networking, green technologies, and consumer electronics and multimedia. The firm invests conservatively at first to mitigate risk, prefers to lead deals, and co-invests in later rounds through to liquidity. Its team takes a hands-on role as active board members and partners. Geographically it concentrates on Western Europe, especially the Benelux, while pursuing co-investments across the UK, France, and Germany to build a European-wide clustered portfolio.
