Skylar Tibbits is a designer and computer scientist whose work focuses on self-assembly and programmable materials in the built environment. He is the founder and co-director of the Self-Assembly Lab at MIT and co-founder of Coastal Assembly, PBC and RLP, and holds a professional degree in architecture from Philadelphia University along with master's degrees in design computation and computer science from MIT. Tibbits has authored and edited books including Active Matter (MIT Press, 2017), serves as Editor-in-Chief of the journal 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing, and has exhibited installations at institutions such as the Centre Pompidou and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
