Paul Schimmel is the Ernest and Jean Hahn Professor of Cell and Molecular Biology at The Scripps Research Institute, with campuses in Florida and California. He earned his PhD in biochemistry and biophysics from MIT in 1966 and previously held the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Professorship in MIT's Department of Biology. He has authored roughly 500 scientific papers and a three-volume textbook on biophysical chemistry, holds numerous patents, and has cofounded or served as founding director of several biotechnology companies, seven of which became NASDAQ-listed.
