Pat Brown was a professor of biochemistry and HHMI investigator at Stanford University School of Medicine from 1986 to 2013, and in 2002 co-founded the open-access publisher Public Library of Science (PLOS) with Mike Eisen and Harold Varmus. He founded Impossible Foods, serving as CEO for 11 years and continuing on its board of directors, and leads the Impossible Foundation, which conducts an ecosystem restoration project focused on converting a cattle ranch into native ecosystem.
