About
Job van der Voort made hiring someone in another country about as hard as hiring one down the corridor. He co-founded Remote in 2019 with Marcelo Lebre after running product at GitLab, where hiring across 67 countries had shown him how badly cross-border employment worked. Remote owns its own legal entities rather than renting partners, so a company can employ someone in a country where it has no subsidiary and still get payroll, benefits, tax and compliance handled; it reached a valuation above $3 billion on a $300 million round led by SoftBank in April 2022, three years after launch, and now serves tens of thousands of companies. It has since bought the equity-management startup Easop and put its employer-of-record product inside Workday's marketplace. He trained as a neuroscientist and left academia in 2012.
