Sumisho Venture Partners is the Tokyo-based CVC of Sumitomo Corporation, established in 2022 to advance startup investment in Japan while drawing on Sumitomo's global CVC experience (over 300 startups invested across Silicon Valley, China/Hong Kong, Israel, and the UK). It targets next-generation growth themes from Sumitomo's mid-term management plan, including next-generation energy, social infrastructure, retail/consumer, healthcare, and agriculture. It invests mainly from Series A onward. The firm helps startups expand their markets by leveraging Sumitomo's assets and resources to scale existing businesses and expand overseas, and helps expand their domains by co-creating new businesses on Sumitomo's business platforms.
