It develops a mobile super-app spanning transportation (ride-hailing, ride-sharing and vehicle rental), food, grocery and parcel delivery, an e-commerce platform, online payments and insurance. Founding story
The concept for an app-based taxi reservation service originated while Anthony Tan was at Harvard Business School, prompted by complaints about Malaysia's taxi system. Tan and classmate Tan Hooi Ling wrote a business plan for a taxi booking app that won second place and US$25,000 at the HBS New Venture Competition in 2011. Using the prize money, personal capital and an investment from Tan's mother, they launched MyTeksi in Kuala Lumpur in June 2012, aiming to make taxi rides safer and more reliable in Malaysia.

Grab runs a multi-sided platform connecting consumers with driver- and delivery-partners, merchant-partners and enterprise customers through a single app, monetising transportation, delivery, dining, payments, insurance, advertising and business services.
