Philip Spinella is a professor in the Departments of Surgery and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh, where he serves as Co-Director of the Trauma and Transfusion Medicine Research Center and Associate Medical Director of the Military Medicine Research Center. He leads a Transfusion Medicine Research Program focused on outcomes for critically ill patients requiring transfusion and on methods to monitor shock and coagulopathy, and has received more than $150 million in funding from the US Department of Defense, BARDA, DARPA, and the NIH.
