Harry Atwater is the Otis Booth Leadership Chair of the Division of Engineering and Applied Science and the Howard Hughes Professor of Applied Physics and Materials Science at the California Institute of Technology, where his research addresses nanophotonics, solar energy conversion, solar fuels, and carbon capture. He directs the Liquid Sunlight Alliance, a Department of Energy hub program for solar fuels, and previously led the Joint Center for Artificial Photosynthesis from 2014 to 2020. A member of the US National Academy of Engineering, he has founded five early-stage companies, serves as founding Editor in Chief of ACS Photonics, and received the 2021 von Hippel Award of the Materials Research Society.
