Outerbase

Outerbase offers an interface layer that sits on top of existing databases, letting users browse and edit records, write and run queries, build dashboards and document their schemas. The product is organized around several modules: a from-scratch table editor positioned as a spreadsheet-like grid extensible through table plugins; a query editor with AI assistance for writing and correcting SQL; dashboards for self-serve analytics with charts that can be generated by AI; and a data catalog for defining business terms, viewing relational diagrams and adding virtual relationships between columns without altering the underlying schema.

The AI capabilities are marketed under the EZQL name, allowing users to ask natural-language questions about their data and to auto-generate charts inside AI conversations. The company states its AI models are not trained on customer data. Outerbase connects to a range of SQL and NoSQL systems, including Postgres, MySQL, SQLite, MongoDB, ClickHouse, Microsoft SQL Server, Snowflake, Google BigQuery and Amazon Redshift, and lists database platform providers such as DigitalOcean, Neon, Turso and Cloudflare, with an open invitation for additional providers. Components of the product are open source and embeddable: the table is distributed as part of an Astra component library, and dashboard charts can be embedded elsewhere using open-source web components.

Business model

Outerbase provides a hosted interface that customers connect to their own databases ("bring your own database"), with additional distribution through embeddable and open-source components published on GitHub.
