Co-founder of Research In Motion (BlackBerry) and co-founder of Quantum Valley Investments. He served as VP of Operations and Director of RIM until 2007, and is a Member of the Order of Canada active in philanthropic projects.

Co-founder of BlackBerry (Research In Motion) and co-founder of Quantum Valley Investments. He established the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics and the Institute for Quantum Computing at the University of Waterloo, and has received numerous honours including the Order of Canada.

Faculty member at the Institute for Quantum Computing at the University of Waterloo and Canada Excellence Research Chair, serving as Chair of the Scientific Advisory Committee. His research spans magnetic resonance, quantum information processing, and quantum complexity.

Director Emeritus of the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics and a theoretical physicist focused on cosmology. He founded the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences and holds numerous honours including a TED Prize.

General Counsel and VP of Operations at QVI since August 2016, overseeing investments and supporting startups on strategic, IP, financial, and legal matters. He previously worked in private practice in Toronto and served as International Tax Counsel at BlackBerry.

Former President of the Canadian Space Agency and a Canadian astronaut who flew two Space Shuttle missions. A laser physicist by training, he serves as a committee member.
