Investment thesis
Barn Ventures invests in people before their companies are fully formed, prioritizing signal over traction. Its edge is proximity: the fund is embedded in Builders Club, a Waterloo community, allowing it to meet builders before they're visible to other investors — before pitch decks or raises. It writes a single first cheque of US$50K on a SAFE, accepting pre-incorporation and idea-stage founders. It welcomes students, recent grads, and experienced builders going again, with a preference (but not requirement) for technical founders. It evaluates ambition, speed, founder-problem depth, co-founder situation, ecosystem depth, and deal shape. The firm is Waterloo-rooted but globally oriented.
