Alumni Q&A
- How did your company get started? (i.e., How did the founders meet? How did you come up with the idea? How did you decide to be a founder?)
- The two founders, Tobias and Wen, have known each other for over ten years, having met at a technical high school in Austria where they collaborated on projects. They later jointly led technical development at Valicit, a ticketing startup based in Abu Dhabi.
- What's the history of your company from getting started until the present day? What were the big inflection points?
- After the release of MCP, the founders saw its potential as a natural language interface for LLMs to run external tools. When they tried to use MCP beyond client-side apps like Cursor, they found the security and scaling infrastructure time-consuming to build, which led them to create Metorial as a turn-key way to connect MCP to agents.
- What is the core problem you are solving? Why is this a big problem? What made you decide to work on it?
- The company addresses the difficulty of running MCP in production, where deployments require managing Docker configurations, OAuth flows, and debugging without observability, even though MCP works well locally. Their aim is to let developers ship agents quickly rather than spending months building infrastructure.
