Chamba

Chamba operates a mobile and web platform that matches businesses with hourly workers ("Pros") for short-term, seasonal and long-term roles. Employers build a shift listing specifying roles, start and end times, date, pay rate and requirements; the shift is published to Pros who meet those requirements, and the employer can review accepted workers' profiles in a dashboard. Workers clock in on site by scanning a QR code provided to the business, and Chamba administers paperwork, insurance and worker payment. Role categories include cook, busser, concessions, bartender, cashier, server, janitorial, general labor and dishwasher, with the consumer app also listing runner, event setup and takedown, custodial and housekeeping positions.

The product began as a bilingual (English and Spanish) job app launched in April 2020 that connected Spanish-speaking job seekers with employers, initially across blue-collar sectors such as manufacturing, restaurants and other service industries, and later narrowing focus to the restaurant industry in July 2022. Job seekers can build online resumes through the app, and Chamba screens employers by reviewing their online reputation and discussing how they invest in workers before listing them. Leadership described in press coverage includes co-founder and CEO Diego Montemayor and co-founder and CTO David Leonardo Ruiz Carreño, who is based in Bogotá, Colombia and led the development team there; founding team member Corina Hierro serves as community manager.
