He holds a master's degree in Aerospace Engineering from Italy (2003), a master's in Strategic Leadership Towards Sustainability (2005), and a Ph.D. in Advanced Space Propulsion (2008), and in 2010 earned a Certificate in Technology Entrepreneurship in Silicon Valley through a Fulbright scholarship. He previously founded the startup IRTA, co-founded The Natural Step Italia in 2006, and reached the final stages of the 2008 European Astronaut Corps selection.
