Sir Leonard Blavatnik is the founder of Access Industries, a privately held company headquartered in New York with holdings spanning strategic equity, global media and entertainment, real estate, and biotechnology. Born in Odesa, Ukraine, he emigrated to the United States in 1978, earned a Master's in Computer Science from Columbia University in 1981 and an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1989. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2017 and runs the self-funded Blavatnik Family Foundation, which supports scientific, cultural, and educational institutions.
