He started at KPMG's Toronto office in 1975 and later served as a partner in the firm's Vancouver, Hong Kong, and Shanghai offices. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) in Accounting from the University of Manitoba, is a Canadian Chartered Accountant and a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and lectured on international tax planning at Fudan University from 1997 to 2010.
