Investment thesis
Badhouse Ventures invests first cheques of up to $100k in pre-seed, software-focused startups that have moved beyond the idea stage with at least a rudimentary prototype, ideally a beta product and 2-4 complementary co-founders. It has a geographical preference for very early-stage companies based in Western Canada, aiming to fill the pre-seed funding gap. As a hands-on, long-term investor it acts almost like a set of new minority co-founders, providing mentorship, introductions, promotion, and in-kind services plus cloud credits and partner perks. Its focus areas center on smarter communities and smarter data systems, spanning identity, trust, privacy, data traceability, security, sustainability and the future of work. It backs no more than ten startups a year.
