Market position

Highreso describes itself and is described in coverage as operating one of Japan's largest GPU-dedicated data center footprints. It was the first domestic cloud service provider certified at NVIDIA's top-tier Elite Partner level in the CSP Compute field and won NVIDIA's "Best CSP Partner of the Year" at the NPN Partner Award 2022. It was included in METI's selection of 100 startups with track records of collaboration with government (2023) and in Nikkei BP's "92 companies chosen by VCs and CVCs" (2022), and its cloud program supply-assurance plan was certified by METI in April 2024.

Cost leadership through GPU-specialized facility design: air-conditioning-free cooling with about 90% lower cooling power and PUE under 1.1, a staggered-roof second facility for heat exhaust, siting in a cool, seismically stable area, and renewable RE100-menu electricity, which the company says allows industry-low pricing for high-performance NVIDIA GPUs. It is the first Japanese cloud provider certified at NVIDIA's Elite Partner tier in CSP Compute, and it develops sites by repurposing closed schools and idle municipal facilities in partnership with local governments.

Technology

The company runs GPU-specialized data centers with a cumulative roughly 10,000 GPUs in operation, described as Japan's largest scale. The first Shika-town facility (2019) dispenses with air conditioning, cutting cooling electricity by about 90% and achieving a PUE below 1.1; the second facility (August 2022) uses a staggered "chigaidana" roof design to improve waste-heat exhaust and reduce power consumption. Siting in Shika, Ishikawa exploits the cool climate and low seismicity. The company adopted Hokuriku Electric Power's "Kagayaki GREEN RE100" renewable electricity menu in 2022 and participated in the utility's demand response program from November 2022. It holds ISO 27001 and ISO 27017 ISMS certification and the Privacy Mark, and is certified as an NVIDIA Elite Partner (CSP Compute).

Direct sales of GPUSOROBAN complemented by reseller and distribution partners including NTT PC Communications, PALTEK and CRESCO, and business partners such as NVIDIA and Hokuriku Electric Power; joint research with Tokyo University of Science Innovation Capital (TUSIC). Other listed counterparties include NVIDIA Japan, Toyota Tsusho, Argo Graphics, Tech Wind, Applied, Third Wave, Culture Entertainment, NICT and JAIST. Part of the 2024 raise was earmarked for advertising to acquire new GPU-business customers. A user community, SOROFAN, was launched in May 2023, and a strategic partnership with alt.ai supports that company's alt GPU Cloud data center business.

Enterprises and research institutions needing GPU compute for generative AI, LLM and image-generation model training and inference, machine learning, simulation and CAD/BIM workloads; reported users span IT, manufacturing and construction industries as well as universities and research institutes.

Geography

Tokyo head office in Shinjuku (moved to Ichigaya in February 2023, with the Ichigaya office opened September 2022) and registered head office in Genkai-cho, Saga. Data centers: first and second GPU-dedicated facilities in Shika, Ishikawa (2019 and August 2022), Takamatsu, Kagawa (December 2024), Genkai-cho, Saga (August 2025, in a repurposed closed school), and Ayagawa, Kagawa (March 2026). The company states plans to capture demand across Asia in addition to Japan.

History

Founded in December 2007 by Yoshiyuki Shikura. The first GPU-dedicated data center opened in Shika, Ishikawa in August 2019. In 2022 the company was selected among "92 companies chosen by VCs and CVCs" by Nikkei BP (March), certified an NVIDIA Elite Partner (May), won NVIDIA's Best CSP Partner of the Year (June), opened its second, domestically largest GPU-dedicated data center in Shika (August), opened the Ichigaya office (September) and joined Hokuriku Electric Power's demand response (November). In 2023 it relocated headquarters to Ichigaya (February), was listed in METI's 100 startups collaborating with government (April), launched the SOROFAN user community and obtained ISO 27001/27017 and Privacy Mark certification (May), and signed a location agreement with Genkai-cho, Saga (October). Highreso Kagawa was established in February 2024; METI certified its cloud program supply-assurance plan in April 2024; the Takamatsu data center opened in December 2024. The Genkai-cho data center opened in August 2025 and the Ayagawa data center in March 2026.

Risks & controversies

The company reported a net loss of 265.753 million yen for the fiscal year ended September 2024 on total assets of 2.2495 billion yen. Its business depends on GPU supply, which company materials describe as constrained, and on rising operating costs in the AI infrastructure market. The Japanese Wikipedia entry on the company carries maintenance notices flagging insufficient sourcing and promotional tone.
