Tantalus Systems is a technology company serving public power and electric cooperative utilities in North America with solutions for modernizing electricity distribution grids. Its portfolio spans intelligent connected devices, an IoT communications network, data management, enterprise applications and analytics. The company's historic communications backbone is the Tantalus Utility Network (TUNet), launched in 2004, which supports smart metering, power quality monitoring, outage reporting, load control, distribution automation and street lighting control. Tantalus positions itself as one of the few independent smart grid providers not affiliated with a meter manufacturer or a division of a larger conglomerate, and it both partners with and competes against large meter manufacturers.

More recently the company has organized its offerings around the Tantalus Grid Modernization Platform (TGMP), a modular architecture intended to deliver data interoperability across devices, systems and vendors, including legacy infrastructure. The TRUSense Gateway is a device installable in any ANSI meter socket that provides edge-level visibility and control of behind-the-meter devices, next-generation AMI functionality without full meter replacement, near real-time power quality measurement, integration of DERs such as EV chargers, solar, storage and smart appliances, and support for broadband backhaul.

The company describes a customer base of more than 320 utility partners and highlights deployments with municipal and cooperative utilities. It maintains a Canadian office in Burnaby, British Columbia and a U.S. office in Raleigh, North Carolina, and is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange (GRID) and OTCQX (TGMPF).
