Spacelift

Spacelift provides an infrastructure orchestration platform that manages the infrastructure lifecycle across provisioning, configuration and governance. It connects to a customer's version control system, references a directory containing infrastructure-as-code configuration, and executes predefined deployment workflows against any cloud provider. The platform supports multiple IaC and configuration tools, including Terraform, OpenTofu, Terragrunt, Pulumi, AWS CloudFormation, AWS CDK, Ansible and Kubernetes, and integrates with AWS, Azure, Google Cloud and private cloud environments, plus GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket and Azure DevOps.

Core product concepts include Stacks (the central entity linking a repository to managed infrastructure state), worker pools of public (Spacelift-managed) or private (customer-hosted) compute, policies expressed as code using Open Policy Agent and its Rego language, cloud integrations with short-lived credentials, Spaces for multi-tenancy and team-scoped access, Blueprints and templates for self-service golden paths, and stack dependencies with shared outputs. The platform also provides centralized state management, resource visualization, continuous monitoring, drift detection and remediation, cost estimation via Infracost, notifications, and audit trails.

Alongside the traditional IaC/GitOps path, Spacelift offers an AI-based deployment model: an Infra Assist AI assistant, an MCP server, natural-language creation of OPA policies, and Spacelift Intent, which lets users describe infrastructure in natural language and deploy it under enforced policies with the option to promote it into full IaC workflows. Spacelift can be consumed as fully managed SaaS, self-hosted in a customer's cloud, on-premises or air-gapped, and as FedRAMP-authorized SaaS for the public sector.

Founding story

Pawel Hytry is CEO and co-founder of Spacelift; he previously co-founded and served as managing director of FitPass Group and holds a degree in Operations & Information Management from the University of Pennsylvania.

Spacelift sells subscription access to its orchestration platform, with a free tier for small teams and paid tiers (Starter+, Business, Enterprise, Enterprise+) that add private workers, governance features and support levels. Pricing is in U.S. dollars and is described by the company as predictable rather than tied to resources under management.

Tiered annual (and, for the Starter plan, monthly) SaaS subscriptions differentiated by number of private and public workers, feature set and support level; the Starter+ plan is listed at $20,000, and higher tiers are quoted. Payment options include credit card, purchase order and invoice, and procurement through the AWS and Azure marketplaces, where Spacelift purchases can count toward an AWS Private Pricing Agreement commitment. The company reports 948 companies using the platform, over 3 million infrastructure deployments powered, and more than 6 million DevOps professionals reached through its blog and content hub. Named customers include Redfin, Checkout.com, Moody's, Duolingo, Sailpoint, Talkdesk, Discovery Education, Bullhorn, SpotOn and Brace; Checkout.com's engineering leadership reports scaling from a handful of deployments per day to averaging over 500 per day. OpenTofu, which Spacelift co-founded and sponsors, reported over 600 contributors, more than 10 million downloads and 350,000+ average weekly downloads as of July 2025, with adoption at Oracle, Cisco and Fidelity Investments.

Latest developments

Following the July 2025 Series C, Spacelift has emphasized AI-assisted infrastructure management through Spacelift Intelligence, the Infra Assist assistant, an MCP server and the Spacelift Intent natural-language deployment path, while adding senior sales and product leaders. It also published survey findings reporting that 93% of organizations have experienced AI-caused infrastructure incidents, and it has expanded deployment options to include self-hosted, on-prem/air-gapped and FedRAMP-authorized SaaS.
