Market position

Idein describes Actcast as Japan's largest edge AI development and operations platform, citing more than 16,000 deployed devices and a No.1 domestic edge AI market share for three consecutive years, with share claims for SDK/development platform revenue, in-store customer analytics revenue and the wholesale/retail segment for FY2024 attributed to Deloitte Tohmatsu MIC Research Institute's report on image-recognition solutions using deep learning (FY2024 edition). The company is a METI-selected J-Startup, a certified Arm AI Partner and an NVIDIA Inception Program member, and won the grand prix at ET&IoT Technology 2019.

Technology

Actcast performs AI inference on the edge device itself, processing video and sensor input in real time on low-cost commodity hardware such as Raspberry Pi rather than dedicated appliances. Local processing is presented as delivering low latency, stable operation and privacy protection, with optional integration to cloud services including IFTTT and AWS. The platform provides cloud-based remote setup and centralised device management, periodic firmware updates for security, and over-the-air application updates. The jointly developed "ai cast" camera integrates Hailo's Hailo-8 AI accelerator chip, which the company says improves accuracy for face recognition, depth estimation and attribute analysis.

Idein sells through direct inquiry and information-request channels on its site and through partnerships with large Japanese corporates and integrators that package Actcast-based solutions for their own customers, such as the Itochu-packaged AI camera analytics service modelled on FamilyMartVision and the joint manufacturing-sector edge AI solution with Itochu Techno-Solutions. It also maintains an official corporate blog and a technical note account for outbound communication.

History

Idein was established on 7 April 2015 and is led by representative director Koichi Nakamura. It has built the Actcast edge AI platform, co-developed the ai cast edge AI camera with Aisin, won the ET&IoT Technology 2019 grand prix, and been recognised as a J-Startup company by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry as well as an Arm AI Partner and NVIDIA Inception member. Recent corporate steps include partnerships with Itochu Techno-Solutions and TIPLOG, Keidanren membership, and the divestment of its Phonoscape service.
