Emerge Career

Emerge Career is a New York-based workforce development company that delivers free vocational training and job placement to low-income and justice-involved individuals, with commercial driver's license (CDL Class A) training as its core offering. Programs are funded by government agencies and are offered at no cost to participants; the standard format combines self-paced online theory instruction with hands-on training completed at a partner school near the student's location, over roughly four months. The company also markets diesel technician and HVAC program tracks, and has stated plans to add nursing assistant and welding courses, with roofing, welding, construction and carpentry listed as forthcoming trades.

The model is end-to-end: recruitment through community-based organizations and agency partners, eligibility and readiness assessment, hybrid training, job placement through an employer database, and post-placement retention support. Each student is assigned a Student Success Coach who provides individualized, trauma-informed coaching and continues monitoring through the first year of employment, and applicants receive an eligibility determination during a roughly 15-minute mobile application. The company also sells software — branded Emerge Career Unity — that lets government agencies run workforce development programs, with analytics, workflow automation, success plans, case notes and participant graphs.

Emerge Career originated from a team that previously worked on Ameelio, a prison communications effort, and emerged from Y Combinator in 2022. Its programs have run in partnership with state and municipal agencies including the Connecticut Department of Labor, the Baltimore Mayor's Office of Employment Development, Denver Economic Development and Opportunity, San Diego Workforce Partnership, and county sheriff and corrections partners in Massachusetts.
