Einride

Market position

Einride operates one of the largest fleets of heavy-duty electric trucks and serves Global Fortune 500 shippers across the US, Europe and the UAE. It describes itself as the first company to operate an autonomous electric freight vehicle on a public road (2019) and, at its 2021 US launch, as operating Europe's largest fleet of electric trucks. Its planned SPAC listing follows similar routes taken by autonomous vehicle companies Aurora Innovation (2021) and Kodiak AI (2025).

Rather than supplying a single component, Einride connects autonomous cabless vehicles, electric trucks, charging infrastructure and the Saga planning software into one system. Its vehicles have no driver's cab and rely on a combination of self-driving technology and remote operation, with one operator monitoring multiple vehicles. It has introduced an industry-first power reservation feature that lets shippers reserve energy rather than only a charging slot, and a hardware-agnostic version of its Einride Driver autonomous stack.

Technology

Einride combines SAE level 4 self-driving technology with remote operation, allowing drivers to monitor multiple vehicles and take remote control in difficult traffic situations. Core components are the Einride Driver autonomous drive stack, the cabless Autonomous Vehicle (eBot), and the Control Tower for fleet oversight. The Autonomous Electric Truck travels up to 200 km (124 miles) on a full charge. The Saga operating system applies AI to planning, monitoring and optimization; a study with Fraunhofer ISI covering more than 38,000 shipments and over 200 vehicles found Einride's Planning AI reduces fleet-level total cost of ownership by 8-13%, compared with about 3% from one-to-one diesel-to-electric replacement. The company is also working with IonQ on quantum applications for large-scale logistics problems.

Einride sells to large enterprise shippers through direct partnerships, deploying electric fleets and charging infrastructure alongside its software, and has built technical partnerships with suppliers such as Ericsson and Siemens. Market entry has been staged region by region, with a US launch in 2021 anchored by a New York headquarters and regional offices in Austin, San Francisco and the South East, followed by expansion into Austria and the UAE.

Headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, with a US headquarters in New York and regional offices in Austin, San Francisco and the South East. Operations are live in Europe, the United States and the Middle East, including Sweden, Austria and the UAE. Its Smartcharger network is concentrated along Swedish transport corridors with seven sites operational and six more in development for 2025-2026, targeting more than 100 charging points in Sweden.

History

After its 2016 founding, Einride introduced its cabless Autonomous Electric Truck concept in spring 2017, revealing the first full-scale T-Pod prototype on July 4, 2017 at Almedalen Week in Visby, Sweden. Partnerships with Lidl and DB Schenker followed, and in July 2018 the company launched an autonomous all-electric logging truck at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. In November 2018 it made the first commercial installation of its autonomous truck at a DB Schenker facility in Jönköping, Sweden, and in May 2019 an Einride vehicle began daily deliveries on a public road there at speeds up to 5 km/h — making Einride, by its own account, the first company to operate an autonomous electric freight vehicle on a public road. A freight mobility platform for network analysis and electrification recommendations launched in June 2020. The company went live in the United States in November 2021 with a New York headquarters and regional offices, signed an agreement with GE Appliances for a first autonomous electric truck fleet in October 2021, and in March 2022 investor Maersk ordered 300 Class 8 trucks through Einride, built by BYD in California. Later in 2022 Einride received approval to operate its vehicles on US public roads. In 2024 net sales more than doubled and the company expanded into Austria and the UAE. In October 2025 it announced roughly $100 million in funding, and in November 2025 it announced plans to go public through a merger with SPAC Legato Merger Corp.

Risks & controversies

The SPAC transaction values Einride at a $1.35 billion pre-money valuation, down from the $1.8 billion initially attached to the deal, and projected gross proceeds are stated before redemptions and expenses, with the company noting it may seek additional capital before closing. Early autonomous public-road operations were speed-limited (up to 5 km/h in Jönköping in 2019), and autonomous deployments with customers remain limited in scope.
