Alumni Q&A
- How did your company get started? (i.e., How did the founders meet? How did you come up with the idea? How did you decide to be a founder?)
- Founder Dillon joined the Flutter community in 2018 and spent two and a half years at AWS working on Amplify Flutter, where he built the first comprehensive Dart SDK for connecting Flutter apps to AWS. Observing that Flutter developers still struggled to build backends because doing so required multiple toolchains and languages, he left AWS to create a platform for building full apps in Dart. He applied to Y Combinator an hour before the deadline and was accepted into the Winter 2024 batch.
- What is your long-term vision? If you truly succeed, what will be different about the world?
- The founders aim to extend Dart into a full-stack language by enabling backend development in it, positioning Dart as an alternative to JavaScript/TypeScript given its strong typing and design patterns. Their longer-term goal is to make Flutter and Celest a standard approach to app development across platforms and devices.
