Band Protocol

Band (formerly Band Protocol) operates a decentralized data oracle network that connects off-chain real-world information — primarily financial and price data — to smart contracts and decentralized applications. The protocol handles data requests from dApps, retrieves information from external internet sources, and validates it through a public blockchain so that all data transactions can be verified. Originally deployed on Ethereum, the project later built its own blockchain, BandChain, using Cosmos technology in order to relay data across multiple blockchain ecosystems.

The current product line comprises Data Feed, which supplies real-time financial data (including a concurrent price stream) to Web3 applications; Band VRF, a verifiable random function used to make randomization in games and other applications publicly verifiable; and Membit, a product that supplies real-time contextual information to large language models, with contributions gathered from community participants called Data Hunters. A Developer Portal lets teams select data symbols, choose a target chain, test on testnet and deploy feeds, using interchain messaging protocols such as Router Protocol.

Open-source components maintained by the project include the BandChain reference implementation (Go), Python and JavaScript SDKs (pyband, bandchain.js), the Owasm oracle WebAssembly execution environment, the Bothan price-retrieval library (Rust), a signal registry, and Falcon, a relayer for tunnel messages signed via the Bandtss module.
