Ballerleague

Baller League, operated by BALLERLEAGUE GmbH of Berlin, organises small-sided indoor football leagues that combine competitive play with entertainment and streaming formats. Matches are played 6-against-6 on an artificial-turf pitch of 50 x 29 metres with goals measuring 5.50 x 2.20 metres, over two 15-minute halves for a 30-minute total. Squads consist of up to twelve permanent players plus a team manager and coach, with up to two wildcard players nominated per matchday. Seasons run over nine matchdays in which each team meets every other team once, followed by a Final-Four day where the top four teams contest semi-finals and a final to determine the champion. Three points are awarded for a win and one for a draw, with an additional point per matchday for the winner of the "Pressure Point" challenge.

The format includes rule variations intended to raise the pace of play — so-called "Gamechanger" rules activated in the closing minutes of each half, such as switching to 3-against-3, limiting ball touches or requiring goals to be scored from volleys — and referees equipped with 5G bodycams providing live imagery. Teams are fronted by well-known footballers, entertainers and streamers acting as team managers or presidents. Playing rosters are drawn from former academy players, free agents, futsal players and recently retired professionals and semi-professionals, selected through a draft, with a mid-season trading window after matchday five allowing direct trades, wildcard trades and draft-pool trades.

The German league has been distributed free on Twitch, on the streaming platform Joyn and on linear television via ProSieben Maxx, with additional distribution on YouTube and TikTok. National editions have subsequently been launched in the United Kingdom and the United States, the latter organised by Baller League US Limited, registered in Wilmington, Delaware, and staged at the Baller League Arena at Tropical Park in Miami.

Founding story

The concept was initiated in association with footballers Mats Hummels and Lukas Podolski as an indoor small-pitch football format aimed particularly at younger audiences, with the competition beginning as a Twitch-streamed event staged in a disused plane hangar in Cologne.

Business model

Baller League organises and operates branded small-sided football leagues under its own rulebook, controlling competition format, team licensing to celebrity managers and presidents, and distribution of match content across streaming and broadcast platforms.

Traction

By December 2024 the league had completed two German seasons and gathered nearly one million combined followers across digital platforms, ranking as the number one Twitch channel in Germany and among the top five globally. The US Season 1 in 2026 fielded ten teams across nine matchdays, with Super Niños crowned champions.

Baller League USA completed its 2026 Season 1 at the Baller League Arena at Tropical Park in Miami under rules issued by Baller League US Limited effective 13 March 2026, with Super Niños beating Club 360 to the title.
