Tim Palmer is a Royal Society Research Professor in Climate Physics and Senior Alumni Fellow at the University of Oxford, where he studies the predictability and dynamics of weather and climate, including extreme events. He contributed to the first five IPCC assessment reports and co-chaired the scientific steering committee of the World Climate Research Program's project on climate variability and predictability. In 2023 he received the Royal Astronomical Society's Gold Medal for Geophysics, and he earned his DPhil from Oxford University in the mid-1970s.
