Polly Payne became Director General at the UK Department for Culture, Media and Sport in March 2021 on a job-share basis with Ruth Hannant, and served as Interim Permanent Secretary in 2023. She previously held senior roles at the Department for Transport, Department for Education, BIS and HM Treasury, and earlier worked at the University of Sussex, the Asian Development Bank in Mongolia, and on an Overseas Development Institute fellowship in Zanzibar.
