He co-founded Compuware Corporation in Detroit and formerly served as its CEO and Chairman, and he previously owned the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes, earning induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame (2015), the United States Hockey Hall of Fame (2013), and the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame (2010). He established the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit through donations totaling more than $60 million and holds an honorary doctorate from Wayne State University.
