Mark Heiman is Chief Scientific Officer at Scioto Biosciences, Inc. He earned a Ph.D. in physiology from LSU School of Medicine in 1978, completed postdoctoral training in neuroendocrinology at the IU School of Medicine, and co-invented the drug Lanreotide with David Coy at Tulane University; he later joined Lilly Research Labs in 1987, where his work addressed growth hormone secretion, leptin, and ghrelin, and he served as CSO of Obesity Research before retiring in 2009. He subsequently cofounded MicroBiome Therapeutics, serving as CSO and Vice President of Research, and was named a Fellow of The Obesity Society in 2014.
