He graduated in Economics from Newcastle Polytechnic in 1986, worked as a police officer and recruitment consultant, then co-founded the recruitment and consultancy firm Huntswood in 1996, which he sold to ResultsCX in 2024. In 2013 he co-founded Havisham, an investment and trading group with diverse interests.
