These days I'm more sanguine about this stuff. If it's true that most of the variance in how my kids will turn out is nature and non-shared nurture, then there's little incremental benefit in trying to hyper-optimize schooling, extracurricular activities, social circles, etc.

This used to bother me, mostly because it didn't square with my own experience: I was convinced I had turned out the way I did in large part because my parents raised me the way they did. It took me a long time to acknowledge the endogeneity problem in that line of thinking.
