He is Chair Professor of Regenerative Biology at the School of Life Sciences, Westlake University, having earned his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1991 and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Michigan. His prior academic roles include faculty positions at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine, Tsinghua University, and the Guangzhou Institutes of Biomedicine and Health, along with involvement in founding several research organizations.
