Chetan Puttagunta is an American venture capital investor and General Partner at Benchmark. Born in Hyderabad, India, to chemist parents who emigrated to the United States, he grew up in Maryland and earned a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University in 2007. He began his career in investment banking, working in technology M&A at Houlihan Lokey and at H.I.G. Capital's San Francisco office, before joining New Enterprise Associates (NEA) in 2011, where he was promoted to General Partner in 2016. At NEA he backed enterprise and open-source companies including MuleSoft, MongoDB, and Elastic, serving on the boards of all three; MongoDB and MuleSoft went public in 2017, and Salesforce acquired MuleSoft in 2018. He moved to Benchmark as a General Partner in July 2018 at age 32. His portfolio has since included companies such as Modern Treasury, Legora, Airbyte, LangChain, Starcloud, fomo, and Duffel, and he chairs the board of Elastic.
