He previously served as Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency and as Army Deputy Chief of Staff, G-2, advising the Secretary of the Army and Army Chief of Staff on intelligence, counterintelligence, and security, and completed combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He earned a bachelor's degree in Political Science from Appalachian State University and master's degrees from the National Intelligence University and the United States Army War College.
